Dog Detectives: Sniffs to Snuggles
Did you ever have a tough day and your dog gave you some extra snuggles? This isn't a coincidence. Dogs can smell your feelings.
We already know a dog's nose is incredible, at times sniffing and sensing what we can't. A dog's nose has around 300 million olfactory receptors while we humans have only about 6 million. Quite a difference, no wonder they have an extraordinary sense of smell!
Their superpower noses allow them to sense subtle changes in your body odor as you go through different emotions like stress, fear, happiness, and sadness. Some dogs are certified therapy dogs but we all have some form of a therapy dog in a sense due to this superpower. Always there for you - now that's a best friend, indeed.
